Question 43

We are growing fast. What does this do to call volume?

Growth brings more people, more homes, and more calls. The NFSA and IAFC adoption guide urges communities to plan for that demand and to have new construction contribute to its own fire protection through fire sprinklers. In Jefferson County the pressure is already visible: Arvada Fire reported 19,025 calls in 2025, 14,106 of them EMS. West Metro Fire Rescue reported more than 42,000 calls in 2025, a 21% increase since 2017 against 5% population growth. A sprinklered home still generates medical calls, and crews still respond when a fire occurs. What changes is the size of the fire they arrive at. NFPA found fires confined to the object or room of origin 96% of the time where sprinklers were present, against 72% where they were not, and the firefighter injury rate 48% lower.
