Question 48
What happens to the runoff from a fire?
In FM Global's comparative burn tests, runoff from the unsprinklered fire exceeded the pH discharge range of 5.5 to 9.0 that most environmental agencies require, and carried more persistent pollutants including heavy metals. In most incidents that runoff is neither captured nor treated. It goes into soil, storm drains and watercourses.
