Question 24
Isn’t the water damage worse than the fire?
One head near the point of ignition controls the average residential fire with a few hundred gallons. Suppression by hose line uses several thousand, applied after the fire has grown and often through a wall or a roof. Water damage at the sprinkler scale is negligible or small and repairable. The damage for fires without sprinklers usually is not.
